The Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) has allowed various sectors of society to organize debate forums among candidates for magistracies and local judicial courts during the campaign period that began on April 14 and will conclude on May 28. This measure aims to expand participation beyond the 86 events scheduled by the IECM.
Media outlets, academic institutions, civil society organizations, public and private entities, as well as individuals or legal entities, are enabled to organize these debates, as long as they comply with the guidelines and formats approved by the General Council of the IECM.
Organizers must notify the Provisional Commission for Monitoring the Organization and Celebration of the IECM Debate Forums at least 48 hours in advance, specifying logistical aspects such as transmission mode, duration, format, moderation, and topics to be discussed, along with the names of the candidacies and people responsible for the organization.
It is mandatory to invite all candidacies from the same district and subject, ensuring gender parity and the minimum participation of two candidates per forum. Emphasis is placed on the importance of equitable treatment, without allowing exclusion for reasons of agenda or availability.
During the debates, candidates are urged to refrain from using party or religious symbols, as well as to avoid interruptions or discriminatory language. The forums must maintain a neutral character, without disproportionately highlighting names, images, or proposals, nor allowing excessive promotion on social media or digital platforms in favor of a particular candidacy.
